Large steel sand planter

The Sand Planter provides vital nesting habitat for ground-nesting solitary bees, solitary wasps, and other invertebrates. Of the 270 bee species in the UK, many nest below ground, often favouring sandy soils. In urban areas, bare soil and sand are scarce, leaving a major gap in suitable nesting opportunities. 

Built for durability, the Sand Planter brings this essential habitat into any landscape. It can be installed in parks, schools, community gardens, or developments, offering a practical, long-term solution. Simply fill with building sand and drought-tolerant plants to provide both nesting substrate and floral resources. 

Rapidly colonised by pollinators and pest regulators, the Sand Planter transforms overlooked spaces into functional habitat, directly supporting biodiversity, pollination, and ecological resilience.

• Marine primer undercoat
• Powder coated 2mm mild steel
• Rolled and fabricated with a single weld

74cm tall x 72cm diameter footprint of product equal to 0.3m2.  

Installation

Position onto sturdy level ground on top of bare soil or aggregate.

Fill with planting substrate equating to approximately 0.3 m3. (Half a bulk bag or 25 x small bags of sand)

Establish planting by seed or with young drought tolerant plant varieties.

Maintenance

Removal of litter and undesirable self-seeded plants.
